Battlefield Road Bridge Over Route 65 Demolition
To Cause Major Traffic Impacts March 7-9
Springfield, Greene County- Drivers can expect major delays at the Battlefield Road/Route 65 interchange starting at 11 p.m. Saturday, March 7, as contractor crews tear down the south half of the Battlefield Road bridge over Route 65, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.
The contractor is being allowed to start at 11 p.m. Saturday, March 7, due to daylight saving time and the loss of one hour due to the time change. The contractor is allowed 30 hours to tear down the south half of the bridge, remove debris from Route 65 and restore traffic to both Route 65 and Battlefield Road.
Battlefield Road over Route 65 will be CLOSED and Route 65 traffic will be diverted over the ramps at the interchange during the work which could last until 6 a.m. Monday, March 9.
The work had been scheduled for March 1-2, but was postponed due to a winter storm.
Traffic Impacts During Bridge Demolition:
During the March 7-9 closing, Battlefield Road over Route 65 will be CLOSED. Drivers may use Battlefield Road on either side of Route 65 to reach businesses, but they will not be able to cross the bridge during the demolition.
Route 65 will be reduced to one lane in each direction and traffic will be routed over the ramps at the Battlefield Road interchange.
No right turns will be allowed onto or off of the ramps at the Battlefield Road/Route 65 interchange. The ramps will only be open to Route 65 through-traffic.
A signed detour is posted directing drivers to use Battlefield Road to Ingram Mill Road to Sunshine Street to Route 65 on the west side of Route 65. Another detour will direct drivers from Battlefield Road to Blackman Road to Sunshine Street to Route 65 on the east side of Route 65.
Drivers passing through Springfield can use I-44, Route 360 and Route 60 to avoid Route 65.
