Battlefield Road/Route 65 Interchange Reconstruction Project

Update for Week of April 27, 2015

  • Southbound Route 65 Off Ramp to Battlefield Road CLOSED April 27 until May 11
  • Lane closings possible on northbound Route 65 between Battlefield Road and Sunshine Street

Work Scheduled: 

  • Rebuilding and widening southbound Route 65 off ramp to Battlefield Road
  • Grading rock and dirt for new northbound Route 65 auxiliary lane between Battlefield Road and Route 65
  • Pouring concrete for driving surface on south half of new Battlefield Road bridge over Route 65
  • Installing storm drains along Battlefield Road near Woodstock Avenue east of Route 65
  • Building retaining wall on southwest corner of Battlefield Road and Route 65

Traffic Impacts: 

  • Southbound Route 65 off ramp to Battlefield Road CLOSED after 9 a.m. Monday, April 27, until Monday, May 11
  • Northbound right-lane of Route 65 closed between Battlefield Road and Sunshine Street during lower traffic volume times
  • Route 65 speed limit reduced to 50 mph during lane closings
  • All six lanes of Route 65 shifted AWAY from median at Battlefield Road
  • TRAFFIC CONGESTION on Battlefield Road at Route 65. One lane open in each direction in diverging diamond traffic pattern.
  • Crews and equipment entering and leaving work areas

(Weather or construction delays could alter the work schedule.)

Project Summary:

  • Replace Battlefield Road bridge over Route 65 one-half at a time
  • Convert interchange to a Diverging Diamond configuration
  • Build northbound and southbound auxiliary lanes on Route 65 to connect Sunshine Street and Battlefield Road ramps
  • Install new traffic signal at Battlefield Road and Woodstock Avenue

Prime Contractor: Hartman and Company, Inc., Springfield

Completion Date: September 2015

Total Project Cost: $12.5 million.

Partnership Project: City of Springfield, Greene County, Ozarks Transportation Organization, Jack Henry & Associates, Justice Jewelers and McLean Enterprises, Inc.
