Battlefield Road/Route 65 Interchange Reconstruction Project

Update for Week of Feb. 23, 2015

  • Battlefield Road at Route 65 and Route 65 underneath Battlefield Road CLOSED from 12:01 a.m. Sunday, March 1, until 6 a.m. Monday, March 2, for partial bridge demolition

Work Scheduled: 

  • Tearing down south half of Battlefield Road bridge over Route 65 early Sunday morning, March 1, to early Monday morning, March 2
  • Breaking rock and hauling dirt and rock along northbound shoulder of Route 65 between Battlefield Road and Sunshine Street
  • Grading rock and dirt along southbound shoulder of Route 65 between Sunshine Street and Battlefield Road
  • Tearing out old eastbound pavement on south half of Battlefield Road between northbound Route 65 off ramp and Woodstock Avenue

Traffic Impacts: 

  • Battlefield Road CLOSED at Route 65 and Route 65 CLOSED underneath Battlefield Road
    • Work hours: 12:01 a.m. Sunday, March 1, to 6 a.m. Monday, March 2 
    • Route 65 traffic routed up and over ramps at interchange during 30 hour closing
    • Battlefield Road over Route 65 CLOSED to ALL traffic
    • No right turns onto or off of ramps at interchange
  • TRAFFIC CONGESTION EXPECTEDon Battlefield Road at Route 65. One lane open in each direction in diverging diamond traffic pattern until August or September.
  • Lane closings at times on Battlefield Road and Route 65.  Lane closings occurring during lower traffic volume times

(Weather or construction delays could alter the work schedule.)

Project Summary:

  • Replace Battlefield Road bridge over Route 65 one-half at a time
  • Convert interchange to a Diverging Diamond configuration
  • Build northbound and southbound auxiliary lanes on Route 65 to connect Sunshine Street and Battlefield Road ramps
  • Install new traffic signal at Battlefield Road and Woodstock Avenue

Prime Contractor: Hartman and Company, Inc., Springfield

Completion Date: September 2015

Total Project Cost: $12.5 million.

Partnership Project: City of Springfield, Greene County, Ozarks Transportation Organization, Jack Henry & Associates, Justice Jewelers and McLean Enterprises, Inc.
