Boonville Ave and Olive St signal to begin fashing

Signal at Boonville Avenue and Olive Street to begin flashing in all directions starting tomorrow

Starting tomorrow (April 3), the City of Springfield will begin flashing the traffic signal red in all directions on Boonville Avenue at Olive Street to evaluate its need and determine if it can be removed.

After careful analysis following the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) practices, it has been determined that the traffic signal at the intersection is no longer warranted, due to low traffic volumes.

Following MUTCD recommendation, the traffic signal heads will remain in flash for seven weeks, followed by the installation of stop signs with the signal heads being covered for an additional six week period, at the end of which a final decision regarding removal will be made.

The public is encouraged to leave comments using the Community Voice section of springfieldmo.gov concerning this potential traffic signal removal. Unless unforeseen concerns for the operation of this signal are identified, it will be removed completely in July.

For more information, contact: Eric Claussen, P.E., City of Springfield, at 864-1165 or eclaussen@springfieldmo.gov.
