High Traffic Volumes Expected During Thanksgiving and Black Friday:
No Road Work Planned During the Holiday Weekend
Southwest District- As Missourians are preparing to celebrate Thanksgiving and the beginning of the holiday shopping season on Black Friday, the Missouri Department of Transportation is taking steps to help keep traffic moving during these busy travel times.
Most of the work zones on state routes will not be in place from noon Wednesday, November 26, until mid-morning Monday, December 1. However, some long-term construction projects may remain in place with lane closings, traffic shifts and reduced speed limits. Drivers are urged to use caution in these long-term work zones.
On Friday, November 28, MoDOT staff will be monitoring traffic signal timing at intersections on state roads adjacent to major shopping centers, including the Battlefield Mall in Springfield and the Northpark Mall in Joplin.
Before you head out for your Thanksgiving destination, visit MoDOT's Traveler Information Map at http://www.modot.org/ to get the latest information on traffic congestion and road conditions that may affect your travel plans. The map provides real-time information regarding incidents on major roads that include lane closings.
The MoDOT Traveler Information Map also can be downloaded as an app to your phone. MoDOT's 24/7 customer service is also available to provide information on road conditions at 1-888-ASK-MODOT (275-6636).
