Route 65 Six-Laning/Bridge Improvements

Southbound Route 65 traffic set to move into final configuration at Springfield Lake bridge on Monday night, Dec. 5
Work Scheduled:

Paving along southbound Route 65 on either end of the bridge over Springfield Lake

Applying pavement stripes to southbound Route 65 at Springfield Lake

Paving future pavement crossovers in the Route 65 median north and south of Springfield Lake

Paving along northbound Route 65 for the new driving lane and shoulder in the median
Traffic Impacts:

NEW TRAFFIC SHIFT: Southbound Route 65 traffic shifted to back to existing, but newly rehabilitated bridge over Springfield Lake.

Work hours: after 8 p.m. Monday, December 5

Traffic congestion should be reduced. The new traffic configuration will allow for a dedicated lane for eastbound Route 60-to-southbound Route 65 ramp traffic across Springfield Lake.

Trucks entering and leaving northbound Route 65 median area day and night

Trucks entering and leaving the area near the southbound Route 65 bridge over Springfield Lake

Nighttime lane closings on Route 65. Work hours: 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

ROAD/TRAIL CLOSINGS:

Timbercrest Road underneath Route 65, the Galloway Greenways trail and the James River Water trail CLOSED until fall 2017

Drivers urged to use alternate routes to get around the Timbercrest Road closing

Trail users are urged to use other Greenways trails in the area

Route 65 speed limit reduced in work zone

Project Summary:

Widen Route 65 to six lanes — three lanes in each direction — between Route 60 and a point south of Evans Road to continue the progress to six lane Route 65 toward Ozark

Widen and rehabilitate southbound Route 65 bridge over Lake Springfield to accommodate new lanes and to lengthen eastbound Route 60-to-southbound Route 65 ramp

Replace northbound Route 65 bridge over Lake Springfield with new, wider span to replace old bridge in constant need of repair
-
Extend northbound Route 65 ramps to Route 60
Prime Contractor:Emery Sapp and Sons, Columbia
Completion Date:November 2017
Total Project Cost:$21 million.
