Route 65 Six-Laning/Bridge Improvements

  • Southbound Route 65 traffic set to move into final configuration at Springfield Lake bridge on Monday night, Dec. 5

Work Scheduled:

  • Paving along southbound Route 65 on either end of the bridge over Springfield Lake
  • Applying pavement stripes to southbound Route 65 at Springfield Lake
  • Paving future pavement crossovers in the Route 65 median north and south of Springfield Lake
  • Paving along northbound Route 65 for the new driving lane and shoulder in the median

Traffic Impacts:

  • NEW TRAFFIC SHIFT: Southbound Route 65 traffic shifted to back to existing, but newly rehabilitated bridge over Springfield Lake.
    • Work hours: after 8 p.m. Monday, December 5
    • Traffic congestion should be reduced.  The new traffic configuration will allow for a dedicated lane for eastbound Route 60-to-southbound Route 65 ramp traffic across Springfield Lake.
  • Trucks entering and leaving northbound Route 65 median area day and night
  • Trucks entering and leaving the area near the southbound Route 65 bridge over Springfield Lake
  • Nighttime lane closings on Route 65. Work hours: 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • ROAD/TRAIL CLOSINGS:
    • Timbercrest Road underneath Route 65, the Galloway Greenways trail and the James River Water trail CLOSED until fall 2017
    • Drivers urged to use alternate routes to get around the Timbercrest Road closing
    • Trail users are urged to use other Greenways trails in the area
  • Route 65 speed limit reduced in work zone

(Weather or construction delays could alter the work schedule.)

Project Summary:

  • Widen Route 65 to six lanes — three lanes in each direction — between Route 60 and a point south of Evans Road to continue the progress to six lane Route 65 toward Ozark
  • Widen and rehabilitate southbound Route 65 bridge over Lake Springfield to accommodate new lanes and to lengthen eastbound Route 60-to-southbound Route 65 ramp
  • Replace northbound Route 65 bridge over Lake Springfield with new, wider span to replace old bridge in constant need of repair
  • Extend northbound Route 65 ramps to Route 60
